PvP is live, not a bot piloting a player's loadout. There are some consumables for equipment slots that might be P2W, but most of them don't seem to scale, a good amount are handed out for free, and they usually come at an opportunity cost of other real equipment. My roster might actually benefit more from buying a higher volume of lower rarity chests, and thus more overall roster development. I also seem to get 2-4 Epics a day from Diamond chests that I save up gold for. You start with an Epic hero, and I frequently see Epics rewarded in PvE mode. So it really doesn't seem worth it, and there is a very limited amount of microtrans (unlike many games with tons of offers popping up, specifically targeted at your playstyle and spending style). The amount of Gold I get in a day is on the level of a $10-$20 microtransaction. Levelling up equipment appears to only affect the passive stats instead of the baseline ability, which tightens the gap. Epic heroes and equipment require less pieces to level up, but they are also less available. Rarity on Heroes is more about how their stats scale, what their native abilities do, and how many equipment slots they eventually get (which might only be 1-2 higher than a Common). This is because a huge part of your power level is equipment, which also has rarity levels. There's less power difference between Common, Rare, and Epic heroes. This ties in with using your whole roster. A character's level is just how many parts of it you have collected. There's no BS about dumping currency in to a character to level it. However, season rewards are roughly based on Wins across all characters, which makes an odd dynamic since you still would not want to use your best character for every match, since you would eventually get matched against tougher and tougher opponents. So you can play a game with a low level Common to grind gold, and be matched differently than with your high level Epic. In PvP, each character is ranked individually and has a first-win gold bonus. Difficulty and rewards is randomly determined before you pick a character, so you can use your weaker heroes on easier missions instead of just throwing your strongest heroes at whatever pops up first. In PvE mode, each character gets one attempt a day, though it can by bypassed with a high gold cost. Here some of the big reasons I am in love with Gunspell 2 right now: Equipment slots are usually for 1-2 categories of equipment, so you can't just slap all your best equipment on your best character. You won't have much use for all the tile types until you have a high level character, but that teaches you early on to deny the mana your opponent needs.Įach character has several equipment slots that each unlock at a certain level, and 1-3 abilities that are native to the character. MPQ had 7, but the 7th was weighted to appear much less frequently. 5 seems to be the standard for square match-3 games. I think this is on the higher end of number of tile types for a match-3. 4 colored mana, 1 skull attack, 1 shield, and 1 lucky coin. But for the most part, you can plan these out if you plan far enough, which just adds more potential for skill. That also means cascades are more likely, where you make a match and have the falling tiles create another match. G2 is played with hex pieces, which adds so much complexity when a piece can be moved 6 ways instead of 4 like the standard match-3 games. The main reasons I love G2 over others is the Hex pieces, the true feel of an RPG with different gearing strategies for your characters, and getting use out of your whole roster. I've played a lot of these games in the past, and I was even a bit of a whale in Marvel Puzzle Quest, years ago.
